Designing an Identity for The Garden City

When the Karnataka Government opened the challenge of developing the identity of Bengaluru City to the public, Zeitgeist seized the opportunity to participate in a competition that had immense potential to create an impact.  We saw it as a great learning experience for our design and strategy teams. We needed to develop an identity that encapsulated the past, represented the present and looked like the future. We believed that in order to stand the test of time and have global acceptance, the logo for the city of Bengaluru should be simple, clear and have universal appeal. Keeping these principles at the core of our design process, Zeitgeist developed the identity to be a representation of the globalisation & innovation boom. The union of the square pixels in 8-bit art was designed to represent the important role technology and data have played in Bengaluru’s growth. The dynamic colour usage was intended to be representative of the city’s ability to generate unity, even amidst varying cultural diversities.
